Well I survived...the crowd, the girls and the anticipation....From the beginning dark scene to the somewhat happy ending, Eclipse was defiantly an entertaining and worth the wait.......but also the most to deviate from the actual book itself.
Positives
The Makeup was so much better in this film, instead of chalky vamps and swollen eyes their skin was beautiful along with appropriate eye changes going from Gold to Black which didn't happen in New Moon.
The special effects were just as well even a tad better than New Moon due to all the action, running and violence that Eclipse offered.
I really liked all the added info with the newborns.....focusing on Riley really added to the story and gives the viewer a break from Bella.
I loved the scenes and storyline with Jasper....probably my favorite aspect of the movie and also thought Victoria had great scenes.
Negatives
The book to movie adaptation was really choppy......I liked the movie but they changed and twisted tons of scenes......the fight with Victoria...graduation..sleepovers....The Cullen girls watching over Bella....the first time she visits Jacob........I thought important stuff was left out and a lot of reactions were off, my biggest disappointed was Bella after the fateful scene with Jacob near the end when finally things with him are truly over....truly a bummer not to see the after of what was written....were talking the entire end!!
Jacob and Bella's Kiss was completely awkward.....maybe I just read to much into it but the actors seemed stiff and uncomfortable kissing each other. They have great friendship chemistry but no romance chemistry........
And my biggest disappointment...although I think Kristen Stewart is a fine actress, I really feel she is not playing Bella the way Bella was written. Bella always seemed soft to me, a caregiver who loves intensely and doesn't want to hurt anyone. I love the tough and independent woman type but Bella was so vulnerable in the first three novels.....shes sure of herself but very intense about Edward. Movie Bella seems more tough...a bit more edgy and not as the damsel in distress, submissive type (you know what I mean) Edward is controlling and obsessive over Bella and I thought his character was almost sissified in this movie with all his whining and Bella came across mean to him.....NEVER in the books was this facet of their relationship showcased, at least nowhere I remember (I'm looking at you after the tent scene moment) I guess while I love everything Twilight and I really did enjoy Eclipse...I was just hoping for very dramatic reactions from the characters in important pivotal scenes.......
I think New Moon remains my favorite movie of the three.
Did you see the movie yet.............what did you think....?????

So I got talked into going again...this time with my very fun Twilight fan friend....and I have to admit the second time around was much better. Instead of comparing everything to the book I just enjoyed the movie and it really was a great film.....

Found you on the follow! I look forward to following you:)

Oh I totally get what you mean. Have you read the series lately. It's been like almost a year and a half since I think I got to New Moon again. I didn't make it back to Eclipse though. This I think made me less critical over all, which I kind of like. New Moon was much more fresh in my mind when I saw it, so I found myself being critical.
ReplyDeleteI did go to the movies with a teen that had read the entire season 16 times. Yes, my jaw dropped on that one also. She wasn't that disappointed in the deviations also. I guess it comes with the territory - cutting a huge book down to 2 hours.
I so get what you are saying about Bella's personality. I've never liked Kristen Stewart as Bella though, I just kind of gave in, you know. I think if they would have started the series with a bigger budget and a better director it might have been much different - casting anyway.
Great review chick.
Twilight was so low budget and bad - from the makeup to the actors and now no matter who the director is they have to work within the framework of that first movie. I wish the would have just remade Twilight and started over!
ReplyDeleteHonestly I don't know that these books should be a movie anyway. The first two especially are more about talking than action - it just doesn't translate well tot he screen...imo
Great points.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED the flashbacks too :)
You've got a serious point about Bella.
For me, I liked it (best) because it was interesting and had great actions scenes...but they messed up all my Jacob parts. :(
