Review

Sapphique begins two months after Finn’s daring escape….We find Jared struggling to fix the portal the warden destroyed in his departure and Claudia struggling to keep things together including her own neck. Then of course there’s Attia and Kerio still trapped in the prison and getting furious that Finn hasn’t come for them and unlike the starved, brave Finn we met in Incarceron, this Finn is well fed and angry.Oh angry Finn how you annoyed me until page 173, your anger that left you weak minded and on the verge of that nasty thing called whining!!!! He does get better mid-way and uses that anger for bravery.

Sapphique rotates between Claudia, Jared, Attia’s and Finn’s POV and I loved that Jared got some major attention in this novel. The things I thought about him and Claudia defiantly became sharper in this story but twisty authors tend to let you think one thing and then take the story in a complete different direction and Fisher certainly did not fail to shock, surprise and wow me. The world of Incarceron was more layered this time around if that's possible, besides the storyline with Jared, I loved the time I was able to spend as Keiro and Attia pull those layers of the prison back. Things are getting much more dangerous and everyone has been placed on a chess board, only the crafty will make good moves and only one set of goals can become the checkmate.

The cast faces an unparalleled journey in and out of the prison- fire, sword fights, magic, plagues and chain gains…even feminists try and stop the mission and let’s not forgot wicked stringed puppets!! Do not miss this exciting, fun, steampunkish novel.

Rating

Sapphique contains mild langauge, violence, betrayels, murder and mild gruesome images. Suitable for all teens to enjoy and can be read by the advanced middle grader. While Fishers series is clearly a child/teen pleaser, many adults will find its multi-layered world a true gem to read.

  2. I absolutely loved Incarceron, so I can't wait for Sapphique! I hear it's far better...though the fact that Finn's a wee bit whiny makes me rather displeased! Great review :)

  5. Glad you enjoyed this one! I think the ending especially was really well done- not a happily ever after, which would have felt like a cop out to me, but a chance to set things right with hope for the future. Great review! :D

  7. I am not a teen anymore, but I loved Incarceron for what is...a fast paced and cool read. The marriage between past and high-tech is totally. Looking foward to Finn and Claudia to explore their relationship and save their friends. Ms. Fisher don't leave us hanging!
