The So Novel Nola's are my face to face book group. We meet once every few months and discuss our book of choice. We are a small but fun group with our own taste and flavor for books. You already know me, so today with my review Id like to introduce Chellie and Cindy, two of our Nola members who will share some additional thoughts on this months pick Girl Talk by Julianna Baggott.

Lissy Jablonski, a 30-year-old New York advertising executive, has recently discovered that she is pregnant by her married ex-lover. Crying, upset, wishing to be rescued, she opens her apartment door to Church Fiske, her childhood friend and the boy she lost her virginity to. Lissy considers the possibility that Church is the man she has always loved, deep down, and that, even though he is irresponsible and immature, he will be the perfect solution for her unexpected pregnancy. Lissy quickly snaps out of that dream when Church marries her ex-roommate.
So the synopsis sounds really good but this bomb does nothing but take you down hundreds of different roads with to many story lines and no depth characters.....once the horrid Church gets married Lissy tries to piece together her future with an impending baby, she thinks back to that summer when she and her mother, recently abandoned by her father, drive away from their perfect American home to stay with friends and sort things out. First they stay with Church's family, the matriarch of which is Dottie's college girlfriend and an experienced divorcee. Dottie goes to her friend Juniper hoping for some advice or solidarity. In Bayonne Lissy also learns the truth about her paternity, finds the mysterious Anthony Pantuliano - the love of her mother's life - and loses her own innocence (eww how gross). Sound confusing yes that's how I would paint this book which had potential and the making of a great story but the author just didn't know how to convey this to the reader. Girl Talk is an interesting study (more like a messed up what the heck did I just read study) in mother/daughter relationships. Tina says skip it and read White Oleander if you want a twisted story on mother/daughter drama.
Meet Chellie
I’m Chellie, Savvy stay at home mom. My favorite books are fiction and biographies, I find other people’s stories very interesting. My thoughts on Girl Talk Not well written at all. Very distasteful language. I found it offensive... ..... 1/5
Chellie is the lightness in our group....she is also a great cook check out her cooking art at Art From my Table
Meet Cindy
I tend to read for enjoyment. I love a good writer, not just a good story. A story can be ruined if the author cannot write. I am not one for science fiction, and do not like what I will call trash. Classics, Historical Fiction, Romance, Detective, Legal Thrillers... my likes are wide spread.
To me, Girl Talk rang with both of my dislikes. A poorly written story and a subject matter filled with trash. Excessive unneeded words to clutter up my mind.

My rating: 0/5.....Cindy is our bring logic to the table girls!!
Overall The Nola's say skip it.....funny in the first few chapters then its just dark, poorly written and makes absolutely no sense.
Rating 0.5/5...Ouch....Fiction Drama
