Favorite Childrens Books

Kids are great...for me I have the pleasure of all three stages....teenager, middle and
toddler. I'm pleased to have passed the reading bug to all my girls. And here are some of their favorites....

My Toddler has me read these books every night before bed...

Stellaluna by Janell Cannon
April 1993 by Harcourt Children's Books

A fun and cute story of a baby fruit bat who has lost her way......during her journey to find her mama, Stellaluna meets a small family of baby birds who adopt her...but poor Stellaluna cannot figure out this crazy bird thing..............

Absolutely adorable and has my girl laughing
and pointing at all the silly pictures.

Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson
Jan 2002 by Simon and Schuster Children's

On a cold windy night, an itty-bitty mouse "pitter-pat, tip-toe, creep-crawls" into a sleeping bear's cozy lair, looking for relief from the bitter winter weather. Soon he is joined by a veritable menagerie of woodland animals, and the party begins. Popping corn, brewing tea, tweeting, and chatting, the critters enjoy themselves thoroughly while the bear slumbers through it all. Until, that is, an errant pepper flake from the simmering stew wakes him up with a giant sneeze. As the bear goes from ferocious snarls and rumbles to pitiful whimpers, his uninvited guests realize what the problem is.........(Goodreads)

Ok I will admit...I love this one too, when I read it, the girl loves me to make all the bear growls and snarls...its pretty funny...Ive got the bear roar down pretty good...........

And while I don't read to my older kids anymore....we still love talking about them and when I read the books they are reading it makes for great book talks and opens discussions on serious issues....

My middle child (who is ten) listed these as her favorites:

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
June 2005 by Scholastic Paperbacks

Twelve-year-old Meggie learns that her father, who repairs and binds books for a living, can "read" fictional characters to life when one of those characters abducts them and tries to force him into service.........

This is one of my favorite middle-grade series as well.

Found- The Missing Book Part 1 by Margaret Peterson Haddix
April 2008 by Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing

Thirteen-year-old Jonah has always known that he was adopted, and he's never thought it was any big deal. Then he and a new friend, Chip, who's also adopted, begin receiving mysterious letters. The first one says, "You are one of the missing." The second one says, "Beware! They're coming back to get you." Jonah,Chip, and Jonah's sister, Katherine, are plunged into a mystery that involves the FBI, a vast smuggling operation, an airplane that appeared out of nowhere -- and people who seem to appear and disappear at will. The kids discover they are caught in a battle between two opposing forces that want very different things for Jonah and Chip's lives...........(Goodreads)

And my teen, while an avid reader like myself is having a hard time choosing her favorite...but narrowed down her favs to these top three:

The Iron King by Julie Kagawa
February 2010 by Harlequin Teen

Meghan Chase has never fit in at her small-town high school, and now, on the eve of her 16th birthday, she discovers why. When her half brother is kidnapped, Meghan is drawn into a fantastical world she never imagined--the world of Faery, where anything you see may try to eat you, and Meghan is the daughter of the summer faery king. Now she will journey into the depths of Faery to face an unknown enemy . . . and beg the help of a winter prince who might as soon kill her as let her touch his icy heart........(Goodreads)

The Door Within Trilogy by Wayne Thomas Batson
April 2007 by Thomas Nelson

Aidan Thomas is miserable. And it's much more than the strange nightmares he's been having. Just when life seemed to be coming together for Aidan, his parents suddenly move the family across the country to take care of his wheelchair-bound grandfather. When strange events begin to occur, Aidan is drawn into his grandfather's basement where he discovers three ancient scrolls and an invitation to another world. No longer confined to the realm of his own imagination, Aidan embarks on an adventure where he joins them in the struggle between good and evil. With the fate of two worlds hanging in the balance, Aidan faces Paragory, the eternal enemy. Will Aidan be willing to risk everything and trust the unseen hand of the one true King? The answer comes from The Door Within........

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
October 2008 by Scholastic, Inc

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with every one out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

And here's what we are all reading as of now.
