KRISTA D. BALL

I grew up in an ultra-strict home, but I had one advantage: my parents didn't ask to see what I was reading. Now, I was crafty enough to pick out books that I could show in case they asked. Smart books like planets, animals, and cookbooks. But hidden amongst the tomes about geography and history was Danielle Steele's Once Upon a Lifetime. Oh my. I still remember that book. I learned about sex from that book. Heck, I learned people *had* sex from that book. It opened my eyes and I never looked back.

Soon, I moved along to Sidney Sheldon and Jackie Collins, enjoying the crazy stories about nuns on the run and the Hollywood high life. And they were hidden in the middle of my backpack, between the biography of Gandhi and a field guide of birds.
Even today, I sometimes feel I have to hide the books I read. My history tomes are proudly in hardcover over my desk hutch, flagged with an array of sticky notes. Yet, on my Kobo, I admit there you'll find Harry Dresden, The Iron Druid, and even the occasional Regency romance. (My history profs just let out a gasp of horror)............

Thanks Krista for being on the spotlight today. Your question cracks me up, I was once a sneaky reader. My parents forbid me to read Stephen King when I was 14 and I devoured his books like candy. Needless to say I wish I would have listened to my parents and waited to read his stuff, to this day Penny the Clown ,baby Gage and that molesting father still give me the creeps.
GIVEAWAY
Today Krista is giving away one eBook copy of her book Road to Hell and one eBook copy of her book Tranquility Blaze. To enter please just leave a comment. Everyone is welcome to enter and winners will be chosen Aug 18, 2012.

And when faced with choosing between her conscience and stopping the bloodshed, she realizes that, either way, she'll lose.

Great post, a sneaky reader? No, not really, but it's probably different for guys. My parents were too busy trying to keep the five of us from killing each other to check out my books. They were probably thrilled that I liked to read at all. I read whatever I liked always, sometimes way out of my age range. It was great, still is.
ReplyDeleteCarl- if you stop by to check please leave your email...:)
