Fridays Finest & Blog Hop

Friday's Finest is a new meme hosted by Steff & Justine from A Bookful of Thoughts and highlights a quote from a book that stuck out to you or moved you.

"...for some of us, one mile can be more to walk than thirty."

— Francine Rivers (Redeeming Love)

This also answers the question to this weeks blog hop hosted by Jenn at Crazy for Books.........

"What book influenced or changed your life? How did it influence/change you?"

My answer like above is Redeeming Love. Ive never had a fiction book hit me so emotionally hard as this novel did. Angels story of prostitution effected and moved me severely on many personal and spiritual levels.

While I was never a prostitute or sold into slavery, Angels issues with co-dependence, low self-esteem, feelings of unworthiness resonated with me. I saw God in whole new light after reading this and saw salvation not as something I had to finally "believe" and be thankful for but to accept the ultimate sacrifice as a true redeeming gift.

Redeeming Love Synopsis: A retelling of the biblical story of Hosea, Redeeming Love is a heartbreaking romance between a prostitute and a farmer who marries her. Set within the backdrop of the 1850's Gold Rush, the atmosphere reeks of brothels, greed and desire. Angel, an 18 yr old girl who was sold into prostitution as a child, has learned to despise all men and life itself. Life for her is thrown for a loop when the virtuous Michael Hosea is told by God to marry her. Micheal obeys, despite his misgivings and as Angel learns to love him, she begins to hope for a future but is soon overwhelmed by fear and returns to her old life of prostitution. Countless times Micheal goes back to retrieve her and she leaves him again and again......not until Angel faces her deepest fears and demons will she ever be able to truly love Micheal.

  1. Okay, I am going to the library right now and seeing if they have this book. My Bible Study group told me about this book last night and someone commented on my blog hop post about this book, too (maybe it was you - I'm having memory lapse at the moment!). So, I have to read it NOW! After so many recommendations in such a short period of time, I think this book is calling out to me, don't you think?!

  3. Jenn- it was me...:D
Its one of the first Christian fiction novels Ive read that about knocked me over. I didnt think faith based novels could be presented like that, it was so real and graphic, Francine became a true hero to me after that....as a writer....

One of my favorite books of all time. It's probably time for a reread of this one. Maybe it should be the book club pick one month.
