NOT YOUR ORDINARY RANCH
By Cathy Bryant, © 2010

Since I’m a Texas gal, I’ve grown up around horses. Though I’ve never owned one of my own, I’ve always enjoyed riding and have been amazed at the way horses seem to intuitively pick up on the emotions of their riders.
Horses play a big part in both the Miller’s Creek novels, but especially in A Path Less Traveled, where Little Bo is helped through a traumatic experience with equine therapy. Along those lines, I'm blessed to introduce you to a wonderful Christian non-profit organization, the Runnin' WJ Ranch, which offers equine therapy to special needs children.
With each book I write, part of the proceeds from that book are used to donate to a worthy cause that is associated in some way with the storyline. My choice of charitable organizations for A Path Less Traveled is the Runnin' WJ Ranch, based in Texarkana, TX. I would highly encourage you to watch this video to learn more about this ministry.
According to the last newsletter from the Runnin’ WJ, the ranch has added nine new horses because of the large increase of riders. Horse care expense is about $1200 a year, and the ranch has a total of 23 horses to care for. Over 200 children a week are served at the ranch, and 160 of them live at or below the poverty line. The Runnin' WJ offers sponsorship to several students each week, and is in need of sponsors. The cost per child per year is $1440. The ranch is also in need of equipment--saddles (including adaptive saddles), saddles blankets, horse shoes, and a lift (costs approximately $8000) to help wheelchair-bound students onto the horses. Plans are in the works to start a Veterans Riding program.
To adopt a horse, sponsor a child or offer a donation, please call 903-838-3223. You can also mail donations to Runnin' WJ, 4802 South Kings Highway, Texarkana, TX 75501

As you can see, the Runnin’ WJ isn’t your ordinary ranch!

Texas Roads (her debut novel and a 2009 ACFW Genesis finalist) released in March 2010. The second Miller’s Creek novel, A Path Less Traveled, was launched in November 2010. The Way of Grace (book 3 in the series) will be available in 2011. Visit her website at http://www.catbryant.com./
Thank you so much Cathy for sharing the lovely info on WJ Ranch, I think this is a beautiful charity/ministry and I know I will be seeing what I can do to help. Also I cant wait to pick up your first book Texas Roads.

That sounds like such a great program. Have you checked into some cooperate sponsers? I would check into some of the product companies (maybe they would have some returns or slightly irregulars they could donate).I used to do fundraising, ect for our local united way programs. You have to be really creative sometimes.
