Sometimes there's no turning back.

Amber's life is spinning out of control. All she wants is to turn up the volume on her iPod until all of the demands of her family and friends fade away. So she sneaks off to the beach to spend a day by herself.

Then Amber meets Cade. Their attraction is instant, and Amber can tell that he's also looking for an escape. Together they decide to share a perfect day: no pasts, no fears, no regrets. The more time that Amber spends with Cade, the more she's drawn to him. And the more she's troubled by his darkness. Because Cade's not just living in the now--he's living each moment like it's his last.

Review

Since the publication date is still a few months away my review will be spoiler and basically almost plot free.

The Day Before is a another lovely verse novel from Lisa Schroeder, with a touch more maturity than her previous novels. While the story reads at an amazing speed, it still feels depth-worthy and defiantly worth the few hours of lovely verse absorption. I think Lisa could write about eating spaghetti and shaving your legs and make it sound beautiful.....

The main basis is about a teenage girl named Amber, who has been handed a very immense life-changing circumstance, so much that her mind and emotions cant process it. Feeling like everything is out of hand and out of her control, Amber takes solace in having one day to be alone. One day to think and get solitude from the mountain that she will climb tomorrow. So she does what any person wanting to get away does...she runs...and runs to the beach. Without her parents permission and without telling anyone except for a note left on the counter, she plans to live like it was her last day to make her own choice and be free. There she meets teenage boy Cade, who fate would have it, is facing his own mountain on the same day. The two have a magical almost instant connection and while insta-love normally irks me in YA, Amber and Cade's story was believable and makes sense that they would gravitate towards each other. The two share the day and night together and form a bond of music, thoughts and movies that speak a hundred years. In the end both Cade and Amber reveal their secrets, their fears, the pain and also encourage each other to face it and move forward. As we the readers spend the day with them, the story unfolds to reveal what each teen is going encounter the day after. The mountains are big, real life and teenager big and I felt like giving them both hugs, telling each of them it would be ok, that in the end after the climb it would be rewarding.

Now under normal circumstances if my 16 year old took off to the city and stayed overnight and met some guy to scamper around with, you bet that I would not condone this type of behavior, however for fictional characters and considering what Amber and Cade each were about to face, the day was very therapeutic for both of them. Something like fate intervening to heal both of their souls.......this book was so pretty with its cover and its words, clever with its songs and culture and sure to be a YA pleaser.

  1. T, why is it so hard for me to get into verse novels? I've tried, I really have. Maybe I need to start with something that has a more mature tone, like this. I like the sound of the soul healing. Gonna add this to my wishlist. Thanks.

Just read my first verse novel and it was okay, took me a while to get the feeling of it. Glad that you liked it.

  3. I agree LisaS could write about anything and make it amazing. She is the one that has made Verse Novels my simple pleasure but she is the only one.

    The others just were ok.

Look forward to reading this, exciting you got to already.
