INDIE APRIL 2012 Kicking off with Monique Martin!

Welcome to the first ever Indie April event at TinasbookreviewS

For the entire month of April {along with a few blog tours} I will be focusing on Indie authors and promoting what a fabulous addition they and their books have become to the book blogging community. Inspired by the Saturday Spotlight, a weekly feature here at the blog, I took the most fun (and most popular) questions and created an event interview.

With over 20 Indie authors stopping for a visit, tons of giveaways and daily prizes..... this month is going to be a blast!!! I hope you join us.

To kick off this event Id like to welcome Monique Martin author of the Out of Time Series to the blog!

Monique, its a pleasure to have you here today! What inspired you to write OUT OF TIME?

I've always loved the wounded hero. The one who builds walls to protect himself and the heroine who is just the right person to tear them down and set him free. I "knew" Simon (the hero of Out of Time) immediately. Then it was just a matter of finding a great venue for his story to play out.

As lover of history, I read a lot of non-fiction and am practically married to the Discover and History Channels. I was watching a documentary about Al Capone and the Chicago mob. Some of those men seemed soulless. And that got me to thinking. What if they were really and truly soulless? That gave birth to the idea of an underworld of crime run the underworld of demons. Add in a little time travel for flavor and bake 45 minutes and you have a heaping helping of Out of Time.

Indie publishing- Why do you think its becoming so popular?

Freedom! As anyone who's done it can tell you, going the traditional route -- submitting to agents and publishers -- is a long and often painful process. If you're lucky (and good) and manage to be picked up by a publisher, it can still take years before your book hits the shelves. The immediacy of indie publishing is its siren's song. It doesn't hurt that you also get total creative control and higher royalty percentages.

It's seductive and it's not for everyone. It's looks deceptively simply, and in many ways it is, but doing it well is darn hard work!

OUT OF TIME has become a movie, who is playing your main character and why?

Good question! I think there are any number of actors who could do a wonderful job playing Simon. In my mind's eye, he was a bit like a 40 year old version of Alan Rickman. I think if it were actually made into a movie, I wouldn't be too upset if Richard Armitage (MI-5, Robin Hood, North & South) were to play him. He's got that stoic vulnerability down. *sigh* Brood, baby, brood!

What's on the horizon for MONIQUE MARTIN?

I'm working on a romantic suspense at the moment. It's a change of pace from Out of Time. It's bit like Date Night meets the Transporter. That sounds nutty, doesn't it? And, of course, I'm working on book 3 in the Out of Time series as well a few other projects, all of which I hope to release this year. Now if someone could just slow down time…

What do you want readers to walk away with after reading OUT OF TIME?

Good question. It's a story about the power of love, redemption and hope. But really, the bottom line is that I just hope they enjoyed the journey. Maybe got a little interested in some of the history. Really though, most of all I hope they just had fun. Escaping into a book every once in a while is what helps keeps me sane. If I can return the favor, I'm happy. If they find themselves daydreaming about Simon and Elizabeth, all the better.

Hmmmmm, fun is something Im always up for, but a love story I could daydream about....fantastic! Thanks so much Monique for being a part of this event!

GIVEAWAY

Today Monique {cause she awesome} is offering a Ebook of Out of Time or her second book When the Walls Fell. To enter please comment, all winners will be announced at the end of the event.

Out of Time Synopsis

Professor Simon Cross has spent his life searching for evidence of vampires and avoiding emotional entanglements. When a mysterious accident transports Simon and his new assistant, Elizabeth West, back in time, Simon finally finds both the proof that he's been looking for, and the romance that he hasn't.

In 1920s Manhattan, they find that are more than mobsters vying for power in the city's speakeasies. Will Simon and Elizabeth's developing relationship survive the vampires' teeth? Will they survive to make it back? Or will they be forever out of time?

  1. WOOO HOOOO!!! Such a fabulous event Tina, I can't wait to see all that you have in store!

And for reasons I can't fully explain, I'm ridiculously attracted to the brooding type, so I don't think I'll have any trouble picturing Richard Armitage while reading. *swoon*

This event couldn't be taking place at a better time because I've been meaning to get more informed on Indie authors. Thanks T!

And who doesn't love the wounded hero, or the Discover and History Channels, or Richard Armitage for that matter!

Sounds like a great book, Monique, and I agree that the freedom is key and also that it's darn hard work.

Tina, as an indie author myself, I'm looking forward to seeing all the books featured this month. I love reading and reviewing other Indies and I can tell my Nook is going to get loaded!
