The Saturday Spotlight with Molly Cochran and Giveaway of Legacy and Poison

Welcome to the Saturday Spotlight, a weekly feature that shines the light on Indie and Debut authors. This week I have the pleasure introducing readers to:

MOLLY COCHRAN
~Author of Legacy~

A Different Romance
by Molly Cochran- 2013

In LEGACY and POISON—YA paranormal about a boarding school in the most witch-dense town in America—two teenagers, Peter and Katy, meet, fall in love… and then fight nonstop. They disagree about nearly everything, from the value of the school dance to solving a crime of high magic.

With each book my editor, publisher, or agent (and often all three) pull their hair out while shouting, “for God’s sake, we need MORE ROMANCE with these two!”

“But there’s plenty,” I protest. And there is. It’s just not the kind of romance we expect.

Peter and Katy start out hating each other. Peter resents the legacy of evil that Katy’s powerful, long-dead mother has left, and Katy, being new in town and having never heard about her controversial parent, can’t understand why she’s being treated so badly. But even after that issue is cleared up between them, others arise: Peter wants to protect Katy, while Katy can’t bear to think of herself as needing protection. Peter finds a job working for his rich uncle; Katy resents the time he spends away from her. Katy can travel to another dimension, but Peter only wants to keep her at home.

Push, pull. It’s not a fairy-tale romance. But it is true love. When push comes not to pull, but to shove, Peter is Katy’s rock. He climbs down a burning building for her. He walks through a mile of mud with Katy’s unconscious (and presumably dead) body in his arms. He risks life and limb again and again in her service. And Katy—well, after learning that Peter has to take another girl to Winter Frolic, she actually goes to the dance alone because he asks her to. Now that’s devotion!

Not all stories end with the characters living happily ever after. In fact, if we’re honest, none of them really do. There’s always something that makes life difficult, and for two people who love each other, the adventure lies not in eternal, beatific smiles, but in the knowledge that when things get rough, your chosen one, grumpy and eye-rolling as s/he may be, is going to come through for you, now and always.

That’s love.
