Third Times a Charm by Virginia Smith
Tori Sanderson has the professional opportunity of a lifetime. If she can prove she's executive material, she's in line for a big promotion. But there's only room for one new account executive, and her co-worker has his eye on the job--and on Tori. Her matchmaking sisters have a handsome handyman in mind for her. But how can she consider romance when she couldn't hold on to the one man who was supposed to love her forever--her own father? The time has come for answers, and Tori decides to search out the father who deserted her twelve years ago. While Tori may find the answers she craves, will she ever be able to love again? A heartwarming story of sisters, retail therapy, and love that endures, Third Time's a Charm is the satisfying conclusion to Virginia Smith's Sister-to-Sister series. (Goodreads)
I’ve just dropped from a cloud of fluffiness, full of girlie goodness and cheese ball romance. What can I say though- I’m a sucker for girlie clean cut fiction. This is for sure a great beach read, or in my case since its freezing in my neck of the woods, a fireplace read. Although this was a third in series, I didn’t feel lost with not reading the previous two. The story was written well enough to carry a separate plot and stand alone.
Tori's fast paced career leaves her little time for family life and romance. Competition is cutthroat in her business and she has a boss to match. When Tori’s meddlesome but hearts in the right place sisters set her up with farm boy Ryan things get turned upside down in Tori’s upscale world. I liked Tori’s character in the sense that she was strong and independent, and I liked that Ryan was a good-looking nice guy, but they and the story fell flat in the sense that everything in her life was so quickly resolved. Predictable outcomes laced the story and everything fell into place just as you would have suspected.
The more serious issue with the girls' father, who abandoned them as young girls never really fully resolved the way the reader would have liked. The story behind the drug use, perhaps a more in-depth look at the “other woman” would have made for a much more gripping read. I guess I would have liked to see this issue taken further and not so much attention on all the things the characters were eating and wearing. The issue was resolved in a nice wrapped box- a little pain and anger however much too clean and too smooth for a reality ending.
The story is a fun read; kind of feels like you’re in a Hallmark movie and I did enjoy it. Faith plays a key factor but it’s not a overwhelming Jesus push. If you’re looking for something light and cheerful Id defiantly recommend this for teens and adults alike, the wholesome story contains adult content without sex scenes or language.
