The first in a YA extension of Dekker’s best-selling Circle series for adults, is a briskly paced adventure that starts with a football game. The game will select four new leaders from among teens who have just joined the Forest Guard to fight against the Horde—disfigured beings created when people fail to bathe regularly in sacred lake waters. Rejected for service, Johnis takes the ball over the finish line anyway, making him one of the four who are sent on a quest. Along the way, the teen learns he can communicate with mythical creatures and stumbles upon a mission of even greater urgency. This title’s publisher is best known for its Christian-interest titles, but while some readers may perceive subtexts in the teens’ monotheistic religion and in the plot’s elemental clash between good and evil, Dekker’s inventive approach to these themes will appeal to genre readers of many faiths......................(Amazon)
Thoughts- Mini Review

Ted Dekker by far is one of my favorite authors, his story telling is fast paced, in your face and doesn’t shy away from touchy subjects. Basically the man can write about anything. From passionate love to obsessed serial killers- I’ve come to greatly respect Dekker’s writing and was thrilled to read his YA novels.
Chosen introduces us to Johnis, a teenager who is still trying to understand his place in the Forest Guard and also the main protagonist throughout the duration of the six book series. He knows the guard is surrounded by impending threats by the Horde, but he and the others have lost their understanding of the true evil that encircles them. They've become lazy and lukewarm in their beliefs. Basically they follow Thomas out of tradition and the old stories that fired up the hearts of so many have now become fairy tales to most. An adventure will change the lives of four young teens forever as they embrace an assignment from Thomas. Battling for their very lives and fighting off winged demons, they will have to rely on each other and a faith so long ago lost.
The Lost Books are an immensely gripping read. I would recommend these to not only teens but adults as well. Lunatic was my favorite story out of six- by this point in the series the characters have been strongly developed and the story line twists into a much darker atmosphere with evil lurking in the hearts of our beloved characters and vampires sucking the goodness out of souls!
