The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
December, 2012 by Hyperion
When Ruby woke up on her tenth birthday, something about her had changed. Something frightening enough to make her parents lock her in the garage and call the police. Something that gets her sent to Thurmond, a brutal government “rehabilitation camp.” She might have survived the mysterious disease that’s killed most of America’s children, but she and the others have been cursed with something far worse: frightening abilities they cannot control.
Now sixteen, Ruby has spent nearly half her life desperately trying to hide the fact that she’s outwitted the camp’s sorting system—that she isn’t powerless, or safe. She’s one of the dangerous ones… and everyone knows what happens to them. When the truth comes out, Ruby barely escapes Thurmond with her life. Now she’s on the run, desperate to find the one safe haven left for kids like her—East River. She joins a group of teens who escaped their own camp, pursued along the way by terrifying bounty hunters. Liam, their brave leader, is falling hard for Ruby. But no matter how much she aches for him, Ruby can’t risk getting close to him. Not after what happened to her parents. When they arrive at East River, nothing is as it seems, least of all its mysterious leader. But there are other forces at work, people who will stop at nothing to use Ruby in their fight against the government. Before the end, Ruby will be faced with a terrible choice, one that may mean giving up her only chance at a life worth living.

Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother by Amy Chua
January 11, 2011 by Penguin
So my blog friends Kate and Joy were talking about this one the other day and I had to get in on the excitement.....and find out about this crazy mother!
All decent parents want to do what's best for their children. What Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother reveals is that the Chinese just have a totally different idea of how to do that. Western parents try to respect their children's individuality, encouraging them to pursue their true passions and providing a nurturing environment. The Chinese believe that the best way to protect your children is by preparing them for the future and arming them with skills, strong work habits, and inner confidence. Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother chronicles Chua's iron-willed decision to raise her daughters, Sophia and Lulu, her way-the Chinese way-and the remarkable results her choice inspires.
So lets talk about these books....in particular Mortals, by now you should all know Dekker is one of my favorites and I cant wait to continue on with the series and find out what happens to all those emotionless people from Forbidden. And that cover for Twang....LOVE IT!!!
So which one sounds good to you?
"Blind Spot" sounds intense and awesome. Definitely going to keep my eye out for that one. Thanks for the heads up, Tina!
ReplyDeleteOoooooooooo I like the sound of
ReplyDeleteFalse Memory :)
I'm loving the sound of Blind Spot, it sounds like it's going to be an edge-of-your-seat type of read, and I enjoy when there's a narrator I'm not sure I can trust because they can't remember everything:) Really beautiful cover too!
ReplyDeleteI need Twang simply for the title! I love it! And as a big country music fan, it sounds like a fun read too! Thanks for letting me know about it.
ReplyDeleteI already had Blind Spot on my radar but just added Darkest Minds and False Memory. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThose all look good --loving alexandra Bracken one :)
ReplyDeleteTwang sounds really good!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to the Ted Dekker book too! It sounds fantastic :)
Love that Blind Spot cover and it sounds pretty good. Twang sounds quite excellent as I'm always into books that show more depth of the "famous" realm of things. If that made any sense at all.
ReplyDeleteOkay....and Darkest Minds sounds intriguing in a "I swear I've heard this story somewhere before, but it sounds a little different and I want to see how she barely escapes and what her ee-vil powers are" kind of way. :D
