~Looking Forward to Tackling this Winter~

September 2008 by David C. Cook
If a miracle happened to you, wouldn't you tell everyone? What if they thought you were crazy?
Poor in health but rich in faith, Gina Merritt—a young, broke, African-American single mother—sits in a pew on Ash Wednesday and has a holy vision. When it fades, her palms are bleeding. Anthony Priest, the junkie sitting beside her, instinctively touches her when she cries out, but Gina flees in shock and pain. A prize-winning journalist before drugs destroyed his career, Anthony is flooded with a sense of well-being and knows he is cured of his addiction. Without understanding why, Anthony follows Gina home to find some answers. Together they search for an answer to this miraculous event and along the way they cross paths with a skeptical evangelical pastor, a gentle Catholic priest, a certifiable religious zealot, and an oversized transvestite drug dealer, all of whom lend their opinion. It's a quest for truth, sanity, and grace . and an unexpected love story.
Ok dont slap me but I love Nicholas Sparks, his cheesy one-liners, his magnificent home cooked seafood dinners and the character who always dies or does something to rip my heart out...oh yes sign me up for emotional manipulation please with all the fixings on the side!!!
Im also really looking forward to Unforsaken, Littlefield's follow up to Banished and Under the Never Sky....Im chomp, chomp, chomping to read that one and I used the UK cover I think- I like that one the best....and lets not forget, winter time for that good sounding snowy dystopian and the must read contemporary's of The Survival Kit and Beautifully Broken.
Im also with caution and great excitement looking forward to reading Wounded. Its been kind of a hush, hush novel in the CF market due to its content and rumored graphic scenes, however Im still eager to start this one in the winter with my face-to-face reading group.

Oh WOW! I haven't heard of some of these! Adding them now!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for Under the Never Sky too! It looks amazing:) After the Snow sounds intriguing too, you're right that it would be perfect for a winter read:)

ReplyDelete"Under the Never Sky" sounds really good! I can't wait to read your review on that one.
ReplyDeleteI've only ever read one of Nicholas Sparks books, but I liked it. I think I've seen every movie they've ever made of his books though. I've even watched them more than once, LOL! Unforsaken looks really good and I think I'm cover whoring that one. Breaking Beautiful sounds kind of heartbreaking and wonderful and I admit I'm intrigued by After the Snow. Interesting concept. All awesome picks, Tina!
