Discussion #2 Chapters 7-11-Questions by Misse at The Unread Reader

Gabi's search for her sister is made increasingly difficult by the fight for territory between Castello Forelli and Castello Paratore. At this point, do you think the rivalry is warranted? Why or why not?

Um yeah- its the Dark Ages, people smelled like poop- I mean I would be angry all the time if my armpits had monsters living under them too!! But seriously---things back then were politically scary, men were fighting for territory and we didn't really have a "Justice" system or governing laws. It was a killed or be killed society.

Gabi aids Fortino by having his sickroom cleaned out and using steam to loosen the phlegm inside his lungs so he could breathe better. Have you ever found yourself in a situation that required you to rely on home remedies to aid yourself or another? What are some of your favorite home remedies?

The only thing I can think of for an in home remedy is for a sunburn. I like my Aloe Vera plant or just some ice cubes...wow Im very uncreative.......

Marcello and his men don't hide their surprise when they learn that Gabi is skilled with a sword. What did you think of this development? Has your initial impression of Gabi changed? Do you have any secret skills?

I think it made Gabi kick-butt, I mean I loved her from the beginning but when she was all give me a sword- I kind of put her in the ranks with Katniss and Katsa.

Secret skills...hmmmm well I can pound chips and salsa faster than the speed of light....does that count????

"Our lips were so close, I could feel the heat of his breath on my skin." Gabi and Marcello's feelings for one another are beginning to stir. What do you think of Marcello as a romantic interest thus far? What do you think of his intended?

Marcello is still pretty hesitant around Gabi, he knows there is something going on and that his emotions are being pulled but I think he is a man of honor and would never go against his promise to his betrothed, even if he would be unhappy forever now that Gabi has begun to steal his heart... for the time being Lady Ridiculous has him trapped!! And that's what I think of Marcello's intended- a conniving girl who has her eyes set on power....not true love........

Marcello and Luca take turns teaching Gabi the dances of Toscana. Would you have liked to attend a ball like the one Gabi was practicing for? Do you like to dance? Do you know any cool dance moves? Extra (not really) points if you YouTube yourself dancing and share the video. Come on, it will be fun!

First off there is no way Im you-tubing myself dancing!! I love to dance but I most likely resemble a chicken on crack so Ill leave the dancing to at home only........

Sweet Dance Moves I Can Do

1. The Running Man
2. The Moonwalk
3. The Lawnmower
4. The Sprinkler
5. The Cabbage Patch

And yes I would be in Swoon-Heaven to go to a dance like that of Medieval Toscana. My favorite dance though would have to be Ballet, its so beautiful!!!

  9. If there is guacamole there with your chips and salsa I'm right with you. I can devour the stuff like no other.

I also think the Marcello is going through one hell of an internal struggle with his emotions.

Oh and coining "Lady Ridiculous" is flippin amazing! You nailed it!

  10. Aloe Vera is really handy! My sister got some really bad burns in a cooking accident years ago, and we used an aloe vera plant and it worked wonders! :-)

PARTAY! What about the Q-tip, Tina?! I think you could rock that dance. I surely can. :D And, I'm so busting out the pie. It will be an enchilda, chip & salsa and pie fiesta. I'll bring the Thong Song and we can bust a move with the book blogger assemblage! HOORAH! And, I'm so racing you for who can pound chips and salsa faster. I think I can take you. o_o

I HEART aloe vera plant. There is just something awesome about it. Plus it reminds me of when I was little and my mom was actually around. :D

I still don't know that I'm thinking the Lady Rossi is ridiculous. True, she's definitely in it for the money and power. But she did almost turn back to help with the fighting. And I do think we see some connection between Marcello and her. It's my first time with the book so I'm not completely giving up on her yet.

P.S. I've never seen the 'cabbage patch' danced correctly...you really need to YouTube us your professional version ;)

Okay if our Tuscany River Tribe Trip works out someday, I'm requiring a visual on the Cabbage Patch and the Moon Walk. Coolness!

    Thanks for the fabbo answers!

And @TheLibrarianReads, thanks for coming to Lady R's defense. I think she has issues and deserves some empathy!

  23. A chicken on crack has got to be the perfect description for my dancing style too! I agree about Gabi; it's so cool that she gets to take part in the action instead of staying on the sidelines while the men fight.

  24. I don't have any idea what the Lawnmower or the Sprinkler are Tina. I think I'm going to need to see a demonstration. LOL. Great answers this week.

  25. Lady Ridiculous! hahaha I love it! I don't think she's all bad, but ultimately, that cookie needs to go.

  26. You totally crack me up.

LOL. Love your answers Tina. I agree about the evil Lady Rossi. I liked that Marcello always acted honorable :)

  32. Ah...I loved these chapters. The almost kiss (swoon), the dancing (swoonier!), the Fortino (swooniest!...what? I like him). As for the home remedies, it pretty much comes down to Tylenol and sleep. No creative healers here. I *wish* I could wield a sword and be that cool...but I think I'd be the running away screaming type.
But the dancing--I'm all for that. Gimme a gown and I'll be on my way!
    Great post, Tina! :)

  33. Tina=

Yeah my hubs wears a size 14 shoe sometimes a 15 and getting him in dress shoes is like asking him to cut his toes off! No we don't dance and I'm kind of glad. I feel like I'm with my father, no stilletos are going to make me tall enough to not look ridiculous!

I have no mad skills either, but I thought maybe the community college might offer Dark Age Mad Skills 101 and I might take it. You might want to check with your community college. Or else dance classes. I don't even know how to do the sprinkler and I have never seen the cabbage patch and would love to see a video of you doing it PLEASE!!

  35. Lol! Love your post- it's hilarious and honest (especially the part about people smelling like poop and having monsters in their armpits. LOL!).

I love the way you renamed Lady Rossi- Lady Ridiculous *big grin* and I totally agree! She's just so despicable for hiding those claws of hers behind a facade of innocence and goodwill.

The chips and salsa look divine! I'm hungry *growl*-> my stomach *blush*

    Looking forward to next week!:)
