It's Christmas weekend 1949, and despite the threat of a storm, the townspeople of Frost are determined to continue their holiday traditions, if only as a means to forget the war that they had all just suffered through. But the suffering hasn't ended for Dottie Morgan who lost her only son in the war. She's preparing to wallow in her isolation for the weekend, when Violet, nearly a spinster at age 29, dares to make a request that will force Dottie to publicly revive the memory of her dead son. When a storm traps the two women at home with a strange young man who has an unbelievable confession and a neighbor with more to do with Violet's past than she would like, no one can predict how this Christmas will give them all a second chance.

Thoughts

Christmas, 1949, the war is over and people everywhere are celebrating.

It’s a time for hope and fresh starts, but for many the fallout of the war is still lingering. For some the loss of a loved one has damaged them beyond repair. For others its left haunting memories and regret. For main characters Dottie, Violet, Jake and Gordy, the issues of bitterness, loneliness and depression are no strangers. And all of them (including little guy Arnie) are seeking a spark of hope that will change their lives. When a winter storm brings these five together in Dottie’s isolated home, they will discover that each of them is in need of each other, to find hope again…to live again and see the grace that comes with true healing.

I loved LOVED this book- it’s a perfect Christmas read bursting with romance and tension while carrying a lovely nostalgic flavor of the 1940’s. I know Ive said this before about Susan Warren but the simple fact is- she has a fantastic gift that weaves a story to life on a page. I loved watching the build up of the characters and seeing what brought them all to that fairy tale house one cold bitter night. I loved the anticipation that was created gathering her characters to that one spot, which would ultimately lead to a night that changed everyone’s life. I loved the romantic tension between Jake and Violet and I loved the subtle romantically driven story of Dottie and Gordy. With a cast of believable heart-filled personalities and flawless writing, Baby It's Cold Outside presents a passionate tale of love, faith and an idea of second chances even better than the first.

Dear Hallmark- I want you to make this book a movie, I want to wear my fuzzy slipper socks, drink hot tea and curl up on my couch watching this on my TV……

Normally, this wouldn't be the type of book I'd read, but the premise alone captured me. Plus, your review was just lovely and captivating, and now I'm completely sold! Fabulous review :)

I love these kind of books. I've been searching for a good Christmas book even though it's nowhere near the holiday. I was hoping it would get me in the holiday spirit. The hubby doesn't celebrate any holidays and its such a hard time of year. I'm determined to have my own spirit. :D I think I'll have to pick this one up. And, for the record, I'm dying for pajamas, slippers and hot chocolate and a hallmark movie. They always make me cry. Also, I could go for one day of snow and a fire in the fireplace. Gosh I think need to leave the heat for a while.
