Blog Tour- Kiss of Night- Guest Post and Giveaway with Debbie Viguie

Welcome to the Kiss of Night blog tour, Im thrilled to have author Debbie Viguie here today, talking about her journey writing vampire novel, Kiss of Night and hosting a giveaway of this spectacular book.

As I writer I have a fantastic job. I get to make up stories and have other people read them. It’s been an amazing road to get here. I have to tell you, though, that the release of Kiss of Night, the first book in my Kiss trilogy, is one of the most exciting things that’s ever happened to me.

Writers always say that they can’t pick which of their books is their favorite because it’s like choosing between their children. In many ways, this is a true statement. We certainly give life to these stories and each one of them holds a special place in our hearts. But, I am thrilled to let you in on a secret. I do have a favorite. It’s this one.

Writers are constantly bombarded with ideas for stories. I keep a list of all the ideas I have. Sometimes I just describe them in a single sentence. Sometimes I write a brief outline and a couple of pages. All told, tucked away in my “to write” file are over five hundred story ideas. Yes, five hundred. Some of these (most of these if I’m honest with myself) I’ll never write. Some I no longer want to write. Those were ideas that seemed good for a day or a week or even a decade but have lost their appeal to me.

But I feel like I've been working on this one literally for my entire life. It’s the one story I've never truly been able to let go of. I loved monster stories as a child and in high school I discovered the works of Frank Peretti who really helped shape the Christian horror genre. His books inspired me. In college when I tried to find books or movies with Christians fighting monsters I was sorely disappointed, though. There was really nothing out there. I had the idea of writing a book about Christians fighting vampires. It seemed so simple to me, so perfect. What defeats vampires? Crosses, holy water, the light of the sun (which with a little imagination could stand in for the brilliance and pureness of God), fire (the Holy Spirit appeared as tongues of fire over the apostles’ heads). Eureka! This was going to be easy.

Only it wasn't. It took me years to find a publisher that agreed with me. But the wait was totally worth it. The story that’s been burning inside of me for years is finally going to be read by others. And like any mother letting her child out of the nursery and introducing it to people, I am proud and nervous and a little sad and overjoyed. This is my baby. This is the story I have worked on longer than any other.

It’s a redemption story at heart and my dream, my prayer, is that people are able to connect with it. I want Christians to be able to share it with their non-Christian friends and family and discuss the themes in it. I want people to be entertained by it as well. So, yes, I hold my head up high and declare, “I do have a favorite.”

This is it. I hope everyone that reads it loves it as much as I do. How can I not? After all, it’s one of my children.

Thanks Debbie for stopping by and I can tell you- I loved Kiss of Night as much as you do...be sure to check out the rest of the stops on the tour and enter for your chance to win a copy of Kiss of Night.

Kiss of Night by Debbie Viguie

Centuries ago, Raphael was a blasphemous knight who fought in the Crusades purely for his own mercenary benefit, and to satisfy his taste for killing. Now, condemned for his evil passions and hypocrisy, he wanders the earth a vampire, cursed with first-hand knowledge of the supernatural world he once denied existed. The powerful relic he still possesses from his days as a Crusader has been stolen by a rival vampire who has recruited an army of soulless underlings to aid him in spreading evil. At the time he learns this, Raphael has been hunting this vampire for nearly a century, and it seems the final battle is destined to take place in Prague. For help in this quest, Raphael must enlist the aid of two humans, David and Susan, who suddenly find themselves immersed in a world they never imagined, entangled with supernatural forces they can't control. Susan, in particular, finds herself conflicted as she struggles with her inexplicable attraction to Raphael. In the end, both Susan and Raphael will be called upon to exercise courage and faith.

  2. I can imagine picking your favorite story must be hard, especially if you gave life to the story. I'm glad you found a publisher who believed in your story as much as you did because it does sound amazing. Thanks for not giving up. That is very inspirational.

This actually sounds really REALLY good. Maybe because the Christian aspect sounds like its going to give it a unique and refreshing story. I really need something fresh. *big sigh* Besides, being that you love it, Tina, that bodes well for me. YAY!

  4. I love that she declared a favorite! I can't imagine working on something or so long and then finally getting to sit back and watch what has been something mostly private (outside of the editing/marketing/publishing team) get released to everyone. Super exciting!

Yes! Those Peretti books!! They're so great! I have so many copies of them, I'm almost embarrassed...

I want to read this book so bad I can hardly stand it. I LOVE that cover. And I love the premise for the story; I can't wait to see what the author has done with it and how it turns out. SO EXCITED!
