The Saturday Spotlight with Vivian Ditzler and Giveaway

Welcome to the Saturday Spotlight, a weekly feature that shines the light on Indie authors. This week I have the pleasure introducing you to:

Vivian Ditzler author of A Touch of Immortality

Hi Vivian, welcome to the blog, lets talk about your book, what inspired you to write A Touch of Immortality?

I had always dreamed to be an author only that for so many years the people around me has given me a negative feedback regarding writers and the ordeal of becoming published, as if the idea were an impossible. But the story was burning inside my head; I couldn’t let it go, so I learned about the process that eventually helped me to build the base of how to convert all my ideas into a wonderful love story. As a military spouse I have had the opportunity to travel and experience different cultures, in many cases my own kids have felt they don’t fit in by the lack of stability, including myself. Working in a school of a military community you see many people that comes and goes, sometimes is difficult, but in the end you have to be confident of yourself and be proud of who you are and where you come from. In my story I have tried to capture those feelings mixing reality with a supernatural twist. The story of Nadya CooperSmith was fun to write and the Sequel (A Touch of Mortality) already published, gives the readers the complete story leading to a dramatic conclusion they won’t expect!

Did you have to do any traveling or major research to write your novel?

Well, the traveling has been part of my daily basics (completely unavoidable, and I won’t complain). Yes, I spent many months before I could even think of writing chapter 1, doing research about my characters, their culture, settings, and everything in between. Even though my novel is fiction, the story needs certain elements that will give credibility to the writing.

What authors or books have inspired you?

William Shakespeare is my major inspiration. He mixed the reality with a fantasy world where you could expect either a happy ending or a tragedy. Brilliant! To choose a particular author is very difficult indeed, because I love to read English and also Spanish books, the wish list is long!

If you could pick a song that encapsulated A Touch of Immortality, what would it be and why?

The song that inspired this story was “I am made of you by Ricky Martin” because it shows the love between my two characters which goes beyond time and it also endures the hardships of their true nature. I think I heard this song probably a thousand times give or take. I also have many songs of sad piano and war, among others which I used to inspired emotions to certain scenes. The music goes side by side to my creative writing. The music is the food to the soul and also triggers the imagination.

Can you share any future plans with us?

Yes!! At the moment I am working on a trilogy about Angels and Demons which involves love and hate, trust and betrayal, good and evil. A mortal that could change everything with just a word, but knowledge will only increase sorrow. Delivered into a world of those whom she would not be able to withstand, in the end the righteous and the wicked shall be judge... for there is a purpose.

Vivian, your book world sounds intense! Thanks so much for being on the spotlight today. Best of luck to you and your writing career.

I have a super hard time with Shakespeare. Mostly, I think, because I don't understand him. I'm pretty sure that's because I don't try very hard to, LOL! Plus, tragedy's aren't my forte. I like happy.

And, I do hate how people can be so negative toward dreams we have. I'm so glad you didn't listen and wrote anyway. Sometimes, we just have to do things and that's the end of it. :)
